       浙江工业大学材料科学与工程学院前身为原化学工程与材料学院的浙江省新材料及加工工程重中之重学科,经过40多年的发展,已成为我国材料领域人才培养和科科学研究、技术开发的重要基地。

       学院建有浙江省材料科学与工程重中之重学科、中国轻工业绿色塑料助剂重点实验室、浙江省塑料改性与加工技术研究重点实验室、浙江省塑料科技创新服务平台等高层次平台,挂靠有浙江省腐蚀与防护学会、中国塑料加工工业协会改性塑料研究开发试验基地,为中国改性塑料行业突出贡献单位、浙江省高分子材料产业技术联盟单位。学院现拥有教工70余人,其中教授20人,副教授26人,专任教师中有博士学位占比达到83%以上、有国外学术经历占比达54%,“国家##计划”特聘专家1人、国家百千万人才1人、教育部“新世纪人才”1人、浙江省“钱江学者”特聘教授3人、浙江省“##计划”1人、浙江省“151人才工程”第一层次4人。拥有材料化工博士点1个,材料科学与工程一级学科硕士点1个,材料学、材料物理与化学、材料加工工程等二级学科硕士点3个,材料工程工程硕士点1个,材料科学与工程、高分子材料工程本科专业2个,现有在校生700余人,其中本科生500余人,硕士研究生200余人,博士研究生10余人,已培养本科、硕士、博士等人才4000余人。

       学院结合学科、人才等优势,已在高分子材料与工程、金属材料与表面工程、功能材料、新能源材料与技术、材料成型与控制工程等领域形成一系列具有鲜明特色的重点研究方向,先后获国家技术发明二等奖等省部级以上科研奖10余项,出版专著、教材15部,年承担“973”前期、“863”计划项目、国际科技合作项目、国家自然科学基金、浙江省自然科学基金等省部级以上科研项目70余项,年承担企业委托项目60余项,年科研到款达1000余万元,年获授权国家发明专利20余项,年发表SCI、EI索引学术论文100余篇,其中top期刊论文30余篇,拥有各类仪器设备5000余万元,科研和教学实验用房3000平方米。

       今后,材料科学与工程学院将秉承“大材至真,大器至善”院训,在人才培养、科学研究、社会服务和传播知识等工作中追求“至真、至善”的办学理念和“成大材、成大器”的教育目标,求真务实、开拓创新,努力将学院建设成为有特色的研究型学院。



大材至真大器至善
释义:

“大材至真,大器至善”,由《礼记•大学》中的名言“大学之道,在明明德,在亲民,在止于至善”引申而来,涵盖了学院“做事”和“做人”的理念,契合了学院“炼料成材,琢材成器”的宗旨。“大材至真”,期望材料学院师生在学习和研究过程中实事求是、脚踏实地,成为造福于社会的栋梁之才。“大器至善”,期望全院师生砥砺节操、提升境界,成为奉献于社会的有德之人。

“大材至真,大器至善”作为浙江工业大学材料科学与工程学院的院训,有较高的学院辨识度,体现了学院在人才培养、科学研究、社会服务和传播知识等工作中追求“至真、至善”的办学理念和“成大材、成大器”的教育目标。



College of Materials Science and Engineering

   College of Materials Science and Engineering, established in 2013 from the department of Novel Materials & Processing Engineering (provincial key discipline) of the College of Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, has been developed to be an important base of professional training, scientific research and technical development for both of industrial and academic communities.

   The college includes a provincial key discipline of Materials Science and Engineering, a provincial key laboratory of Plastic Modified and Processing Technology Research, and a Provincial Platform of Plastic Technology Innovation and has managed Zhejiang Corrosion and Protection Academy and the Modified Plastics Research Breeding Base of China Plastics Processing Industry Association. The college has been awarded as a unit which has made outstanding contribution to Modified Plastics Industry of China and an allied unit of Zhejiang Polymer Materials Industrial Technology.

To date, the college has over 70 faculties, including 23 professors, 27 associate professors, and 83 percent of them hold a doctor's degree. Among the teachers, many of them are selected into national and provincial major talent projects, e.g. 1 teacher in “National Thousand Talents Plan" Distinguished experts, 1 teacher in “New Century Talents” by Ministry of Education, 3 teachers in “Qianjiang” Distinguished experts and 4 teachers in the first section of Zhejiang “151” Talents Project. At present, the college have the qualification to offer a doctoral program of Chemical Engineering of Materials, a first-class discipline master program of Materials Science and Engineering, three master programs of the second-class discipline, i.e. Materials Science, Materials Physics and Chemistry and Materials Processing Engineering, an Engineering master's program of, Materials Engineering, and two undergraduate programs, i.e., Materials Science and Engineering, Polymer Materials and Engineering. Currently, around 700 students are studying in our college, among whom there are over 500 undergraduates, over 200 graduates and over 10 doctoral graduates. Till now,over 4000 students have been graduated.

     Utilizing the advantages of disciplines and talents, the college has formed a series of distinctive characteristics in key research direction in Polymer Materials and Engineering, Functional Materials, New Energy Materials and Technology, Metal Materials and Surface Engineering, Material Processing and Control Engineering etc., which are well represented by more than  10 research awards including a 2nd prize of National Awards for Technological Invention, and 15 monographs and teaching materials in these areas. Each year, the college undertakes over 70 projects, including the prophase of “Project 973”, “Project 863”, International Technological Cooperative Project, projects sponsored by National Natural Science Fund, Provincial projects and the Ministry projects, as well as projects from industrial community Based on these projects, more than 10 million RMB funding is funded,  20 national invention patents are granted, and 100 academic articles are published, of which over 20 have been extracted by the top index agencies. In the case of facilities, we have standard lab of more than 3 thousand square meters and professional instruments and equipments valued more 50 million RMB.

     From now on, College of Materials Science and Engineering will uphold the college motto, which means that the one who is beneficial to society must have perfect real skills and knowledge and the one who is a great talent must be supreme good in virtue. The college will dedicate personal training, scientific research, social service, and knowledge spreading, etc.,  to pursue the educational philosophy of “being perfect real and being supreme good” and the educational aim of “being a great talent”.  Our college will become a high-level research college with distinctive characteristics through pragmatic refinement, exploration and innovation of all members.
