1988年8月-1991年6月：兰州大学化学系物理化学专业，获硕士学位。
1991年6月-1994年8月：兰州大学化学系讲师。
1994年9月-1997年7月：中国科学院化学研究所，获博士学位。
1997年9月-1998年11月：美国佛罗里达大学博士后，任Group Leader。
1998年11月-2001年3月：美国印第安那-普渡大学，博士后。
2001年3月：入选中国科学院引进国外杰出人才"百人计划"。
2002年2月-至今：中科院化学所胶体界面与热力学重点实验室，研究员，博士生导师。
2010年：获得国家杰出青年基金。
王毅琳课题组成立于2002年，主要研究方向包括：发展新型两亲分子；新型两亲分子有序组合体的结构和功能调控；表面活性剂与聚合物之间的相互作用及其相行为；两亲分子与生物大分子之间的相互作用；两亲分子在固体表面的自组装；适用于提高石油采收率的聚合物驱油体系以及与其配套的产出液分离和污水处理技术。
